Abstract
The issue of the Armenian Genocide continues to play a significant role in Armenia’s relations with Turkey, even though this controversy is not currently at the foremost of public discourse. The author highlights the current state of affairs and the importance of the genocide issue. In particular, he examines Turkey’s perspective- which is rarely explored- and thus the official reasons for its denial of the genocide. He examines in particular the concept of premeditation. He concludes that the Armenian diaspora’s aggressive choice to assert the crime of genocide, while it certainly helped maintain the cohesion of the diaspora, has at the same time made it more difficult to find a solution with Turkey.
