Executive Summary: The events initiated by various Palestinian resistance organizations on 7 October 2023 surprised everyone and changed the geopolitical situation. These organizations, which also include Marxist and secular formations in coordination with Hamas, named Operation Tūfān al-Aqsā (“Al-Aqsa Flood”) with reference to the Al-Aqsa Mosque (Jerusalem) and triggered it on the eve of the 50th anniversary of the Kippur-Ramadan War (1973). International reactions are varied, with the Arab League’s pro-Western monarchies destabilized by Hamas’s changing strategy since 2011, and the pro-Western elites having difficulty addressing the issue, in a global context also tensed by the Russian-Ukrainian conflict. Media manipulation and isolation of the Palestinian problem are used together to avoid disturbing explanations, mask blind support for Israel, France in particular, including to the detriment of freedom of expression. The recurrent two-State solution was unrealizable because of Israeli colonization and the fragmentation of Palestinian territory. Tracing the history of the partition of Palestine from 1947 onwards allows us to better emphasize the injustice perceived by the Palestinian Arabs, whose leaders had rejected the sharing plan. The resulting legal vacuum would have allowed Israel to violate international law with impunity. Inaction against UN resolutions and the condemnations of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) are to be deplored but, despite Israel’s military power, resistance groups continue to resist and expand the conflict regionally. The most reasonable and acceptable solution would be that of a single democratic State integrating Arabs and Jews, although this remains a distant perspective.
