Executive summary: To fully understand the role of BRICS in transforming the world order towards multipolarity, it is necessary to situate it in the wider context of international competition, by identifying different levels of influence depending on the strength of the links between the actors involved. The scientific objective of this approach is based on the application of a model based on standard ideals, allowing to compare the actors of the “new” and “old” eras of international relations. In the 21st century, competition intensified at all levels of the research model described. This model allows for a better understanding of the behaviour of international actors who redefine their geopolitical codes under the influence of processes of transformation from the international order to multipolarity. BRICS promote a new paradigm of international relations and can be essentially characterized as an inter-civilizational association of countries for a “new era”.

Abstract: In order to fully understand the role of the BRICS in transforming the world order towards multipolarity, it is necessary to place it in the broader context of international competition, identifying different levels of influence according to the strength of the links between the actors involved. The scientific objective of this approach is based on the application of a model using ideal types, allowing a comparison between actors of the “new” and “old” eras of international relations. In the 21st century, competition is intensifying at all levels of the research model described. This model helps to better understand the behavior of international actors who are reconstructing their geopolitical codes under the influence of ongoing processes transforming the international order towards multipolarity. The BRICS promote a new paradigm of international relations and can essentially be characterized as an inter-civilizational association of countries for a “new era”.
