Executive Summary: Since 1917, the fundamental rights of Palestinians have been ignored and violated. The Balfour Declaration, the British Mandate and the Partition Plan of Palestine led to the establishment of the State of Israel, while the right to Palestinian independence remains unrecognized. The text examines the situation of Palestinian rights during these periods and describes the harmony between the Jewish and Palestinian communities in the Ottoman era. The second part of the text describes the process of recognizing the right of Palestinians to self-determination and independence by the United Nations, as well as the Zionist obstacles to that movement. Several UN resolutions (such as Resolution 194 (III) of 1948 and Resolution 242 of 1967) recognize the rights of Palestinians and call for the withdrawal of Israeli forces from the occupied territories. Zionist organizations have used various means to oppose the recognition of the right of Palestinians to independence, notably by using the argument of Nazi persecution of Jews in Europe and by defending the idea of the return of the “Jewish people” to its “national home”.
